Vinnie Hart discusses water’s toughest challenges | Global Water Intelligence

In a recent interview with Global Water Intelligence, Carollo Engineers’ Vinnie Hart shared insights into some of the most pressing challenges the water industry is facing, ranging from aging infrastructure to the complexities of emerging contaminants like PFAS. Vinnie emphasized that the direction of Carollo’s water technology strategy is driven by the evolving needs of clients, many of whom are grappling with water scarcity, tighter regulations, and aging facilities.

Among the topics discussed was the critical issue of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which is creating new demands for water treatment. Vinnie explained that while off-the-shelf PFAS removal technologies exist, high levels of organics and other water constituents can interfere with their effectiveness, requiring utilities to develop more strategic solutions. He also highlighted the growing interest in more energy-efficient wastewater treatment processes and Carollo’s innovations in monitoring greenhouse gas emissions from treatment plants through technologies like I-FLOAT.

Vinnie also touched on the digital revolution in water management, discussing how Carollo is leveraging data analytics and automation to optimize processes in real-time. In talking about the utilization of machine learning in the water industry, he says “It can take a good engineer and make them better and faster because they have this whole new suite of resources at their disposal.”

From new approaches to biosolids management to the industry’s embrace of water reuse, this interview offers a comprehensive look at how Carollo is helping clients navigate complex water challenges while building toward a more sustainable future. Read the full interview to learn more.
