In a recent interview with Municipal Water Leader magazine, Carollo Engineers‘ Stetson Bassett and Eva Steinle-Darling, along with Raymond Garrison, director of the South Jordan Public Works Department, discussed the City of South Jordan’s groundbreaking Pure SoJo Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) Demonstration Facility. This project marks a significant milestone for water reuse in Utah, providing a potential new water source for the arid region. Through cutting-edge technology, the facility takes wastewater and transforms it into high-quality, purified water, offering a solution to both increasing water demands and the need for responsible water management. By integrating advanced treatment processes, Pure SoJo has demonstrated that water reuse is not just an option for the future but a reality today.
“It’s important to recognize South Jordan as the leader in bringing DPR to Utah,” said Eva, Carollo’s water reuse technical practice director. “It has learned not just water treatment but ultra water treatment from scratch. It is doing this not only to serve itself but to serve the entire state.”
As the project manager on Pure SoJo, Stetson adds, “South Jordan is a fairly small city, but its vision and long-term goals are huge. It’s having a significant effect on DPR in Utah by helping educate the public and regulators. It’s moving other utilities and cities toward potable reuse. It has an influence on the United States as a whole as well.”
With Pure SoJo leading the way, water reuse is quickly becoming an essential part of a sustainable future, offering solutions that not only address water scarcity but also protect the environment for future generations.
