Ready for the present and the future
Our weather is becoming increasingly variable and extreme. We are experiencing extended periods of drought, extreme wildfires, major flooding events, sea-level rise…all of which are threatening the viability of our water resources and the integrity of our water and wastewater infrastructure. It is imperative utility managers and planners identify relevant threats and specific water infrastructure vulnerabilities to develop proactive mitigation plans comprised of adaptation strategies that build long-term resilience. We leverage tools, such as the EPA’s Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT), to teach utilities how to use them and help utilities better understand the impact of current and long-term weather conditions. And we promote and facilitate collaborative partnerships among clients, other sector groups, and regulatory agencies to address climate threats through community-level approaches.
