Carollo Engineers and Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility Receives APWA 2019 Public Works Project of the Year Award

Seattle, WA – October 15, 2019 – The Carollo-designed Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility recently received the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) 2019 Public Works Project of the Year Awardfor infrastructure projects that promote excellence in construction management and administration and are publicly developed, owned, and maintained. These awards recognize the alliance between the managing agency, the contractor, the consultant, and their cooperative achievements.

The APWA Public Works Projects of the Year Awards are presented annually at APWA’s PWX conference. Awards are given in four divisions and five categories. The four divisions are projects less than $5 million; projects over $5 million, but less than $25 million; projects between $25 million and $75 million; and projects over $75 million. The categories are structures, transportation, environment, historical restoration/preservation, and disaster or emergency construction repair.

Carollo’s Oak Harbor Clean Water Facility project received APWA’s 2019 Public Works Project of the Year Award in the environment category and the >$75M division. For this project, Carollo worked closely with the City of Oak Harbor to replace two treatment facilities in an environmentally sensitive area with a single MBR facility. Because the City anticipates population growth over the next 20 years, the new MBR facility will meet modern standards for reliability and performance, allow the City to provide continuous reliable wastewater service to the community, and protect and preserve the surrounding environment.

This year’s awards were recognized during APWA’s PWX (Public Works Expo) 2019, which took place September 8-11, 2019, in Seattle, Washington, at the Washington State Convention Center.
