California produces more than 200 mgd of new potable water from municipal wastewater using various treatment processes, and that quantity may double in the next 10 years. Across North America and around the world, water utilities are operating successful potable reuse projects at a range of scales and using a range of treatment trains. However, all have the same goal: protect public health.
